Abtei Garten | Abbey Vegetable Garden
2025-6
A very inspiring picture that came to me by FB. I love the color of the dirt... (source unknown)

2025.6.1 ~ Introduction
One of the imperatives for the Abbey was a vegetable garden.
In this regard, I have been able to make grateful use of what the firm Busch has to offer.
In addition to this, I was hugely inspired by a fabulously beautiful model railway that I visited and photographed in December 2025.

I have studied the matter and concluded that a beautiful, historic vegetable garden at the back left is the best option.
Even the more, since the beautiful promenade garden will be at the front, depending on which side you look.
Btw... Promenade Garden? Ornamental Garden? Little Versailles? I am still looking for a suitable name...

2025.6.2 ~ Let's get started...
In September 2025, I started planning.
The starting point was the beautiful arched wall, a remnant of a Faller model kit.
These arches in particular remind me of the serpentine wall often seen for keeping vines warm.

Using profiled wall panels (Faller), I constructed stone walls for both the
garden and the entire perimeter of the Abbey.
I left the profiled side as it
was, although I finished it in my own color style and weathered it.
I gave
the other side the style of a crumbling stucco wall, with a partially visible
stone structure underneath. I made this side entirely by hand.

2025.6.3 ~ "Ordnung muß sein..."
Instead of a wild vegetable garden directly on the ground, I opted for flowerbeds where the vegetables had to be grouped neatly.

2025.6.4 ~ Another doorway
Since the vegetable garden is situated completely in the corner, far away from all exits, it seemed sensible to me to create an extra door.
This way, you enter the vegetable garden directly from the hall in front of the chapel.
And not only that, a cemetery will also be located next to it.

2025.6.6 ~ Red cabbage, or something else?
(29.9.2025)
I made red cabbage out of paper. Not really a success, but anyway, real handiwork has its charm too.

The vegetable garden also requires a compost heap, naturally in the furthest corner of the entire abbey complex.
