Storchenturm in Weil der Stadt

Kibri B-8474 (Set B-8480) | February 2025 | A gift from my dealer

1.1 ~ Preview

For sharing one of my pictures of the KM1 Württemberg C to be put on his company car, my dealer gave me this Kibri Kit as a down payment.

It brought me back to the days that I made these kit as a youth while running trains on my dad's layout. You can see them in the background.

Around 1990

The set B-8480 contains 4 separate boxes, known as B-8470 to B-8476:

The models from my youth found a new spot in the Old Town of my layout-to-be: the Cochemer Bahn

1997

Finally, these buildings were upgraded several times in the good old fashioned ways (see Chapter 1.1)... but yet not to today's CB-standards!

1.2 ~ Storchenturm | History of the original Stork Tower

The original of the Storchenturm can be found in Weil der Stadt (Germany).

It needs no telling where the name 'Storchenturm (Stork Tower) comes from...

1.3 ~ The model | Opus 2.0

I was a bit surprised when I discovered that the manuals were missing from all four boxes.

Fortunately I was able to find the manuals for 2 kits on the Internet. Whatever parts I end up with, well, they will find their way...

There are still examples on the Cochemer Bahn, which I made before...

1.3.1 ~ Painting

It's always a treat to put your pen on a blank sheet of paper and write the first words of a beautiful story.

The same goes for the beginning of a new model... that moment when you dip the brush in the paint and already know more or less how it's going to look.

Although... that last one is always the question, when along the way certain insights into color combinations reveal themselves.

Although the wall sections including windows consist of one piece, I opted for black windows, while providing the white fields with an ivory white layer.

In the evening I took a sneak peek at how the first edition - in another painting style - is still at present on the Cochemer Bahn
